Shredder II: the 10-inch revision

What is documented about the Shredder II beyond the 10-inch size Mode 2 FPV added to the line, which is very little.

The Shredder II was Mode 2 FPV's revision of the Shredder, the frame the company sold in 5-inch and 7-inch sizes (see the Shredder archive page for those specifications). What is documented about the Shredder II is narrower: the company's own catalogue page says it was released additionally in a 10-inch size, and credits that size with a specific role in the FPV scene. Mode 2 FPV was a US frame maker run by Brian Welch, active roughly from 2013 to 2020 under the Thingiverse handle mode2fpv.

No wheelbase, weight or construction details for the 10-inch Shredder II survive in the captures we have. The 220 mm / 280 mm wheelbase and 100 g / 105 g weight figures documented for the original 5-inch and 7-inch Shredder come from a separate capture of that frame's own shop page, and nothing in the archive confirms whether the Shredder II carried the same construction at those sizes or changed it. This page stops at what the 10-inch size was called and what the company said about it, rather than guessing at the rest.

What Mode 2 FPV said about it

The company's own copy credited the Shredder II with a role beyond its own product line: it "helped popularize longer range 10" FPV flight." As with the equivalent line about the 7-inch Shredder, that is Mode 2 FPV's characterisation of its own frame's influence, not an independently verified claim, and it is quoted here rather than stated as neutral fact. A 10-inch size sits well past the 5-inch and 7-inch frames that make up most of the FPV hobby, and "long range" is generally used in that community for builds that trade agility for flight time and radio range rather than for racing or freestyle. That is background on the term, not a description of how this specific frame performed; nothing in the archive tells us that.

Like the rest of the range, the Shredder II was released under the GNU GPL v3, with source files on GitHub and Thingiverse. The GitHub repository has not been located and this page does not link to a constructed URL. The Thingiverse profile is live: thingiverse.com/mode2fpv/designs.

What this page cannot say

We do not know when the Shredder II was released, how many were made, what it cost, whether the 5-inch and 7-inch sizes continued alongside the new 10-inch option, or why Mode 2 FPV eventually stopped operating.
