Shredder: Mode 2 FPV's 5-inch and 7-inch frame

The Shredder was Mode 2 FPV's long-range racing frame, sold in 5-inch and 7-inch sizes from the same GNU GPL v3 catalogue as the Ghost. Mode 2 FPV was a US frame maker run by Brian Welch, active roughly from 2013 to 2020 under the Thingiverse handle mode2fpv. A Wayback capture of the Shredder's own shop page survives with a specification list for both sizes, and the company's own copy credits the 7-inch version with a specific role in the wider FPV scene.

A symmetrical X keeps all four arms the same length, which is the usual choice for a frame that has to fly cleanly both forwards and in reverse, rather than a stretched layout built around one dominant direction of travel. A low deck sits the flight stack closer to the arms than a mid-mount design does, which is the general reason builders choose that layout: it brings the heaviest components down and in, rather than up on a shelf. Neither of those is a claim specific to how this frame flew; they describe what the documented geometry and deck height mean in general terms, not a tested result for the Shredder.

What Mode 2 FPV said about the 7-inch size

Describing the 7-inch Shredder specifically, the company said it "helped to popularize the 7" long range frame segment." That is Mode 2 FPV's own account of its place in the wider FPV frame market, not an independently verified claim, and it is quoted here rather than restated as neutral fact. It applies to the 7-inch size; nothing equivalent survives for the 5-inch version.

The Shredder was released under the GNU GPL v3, with source files on GitHub and Thingiverse. The GitHub repository's exact address was not captured and the account has not been located, so this page does not link a constructed URL. The Thingiverse profile is live: thingiverse.com/mode2fpv/designs.

What this page cannot say

We do not know when the Shredder was released, how many were made, what it cost, or why Mode 2 FPV eventually stopped operating.
